The
permanent collection of the Concord Art Association includes a
wide variety of paintings, drawings, sculpture, objects and furnishings
acquired during its early years under the leadership of its founder,
Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts. Miss Roberts' fine eye as an art
buyer and close relations with many of the artists represented
in the collection, coupled with her great generosity to the Art
Association, yielded a stellar collection, diminished somewhat
over the years after Miss Roberts' death as mounting expenses
forced the sale of some of the finer and then more marketable
pieces.
Thanks
to more aggressive fundraising and an endowment which provides
a small cushion against hard times, the current board of directors
is determined to preserve and conserve the remaining collection.
As the exhibition calendar permits, the Art Association plans
to display portions of the permanent collection, and when appropriate
will continue to make available work from the collection for exhibition
elsewhere. Recently, works from the collection have been on exhibit
at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Guild of Boston Artists
and the Georgia Museum of Art. Artists whose work is represented

influence and bearing on the Association. If any reader is aware
of work that should be included, we invite you to call the office
or get in touch with any member of the board of directors.
