Painting Abstraction in Nature

With Jon's instruction and guidance you will discover the abstractions that are found in nature. This plein air class challenges you to explore your emotional responses to a scene and transform what you see with your own vocabulary of shapes and colors. There will be group discussion and critiques every day.

Painting With Puccini, Painting with Passion

Painting to music can be a source of inspiration and lift you to heights of creativity you never knew you had! Watch Tom paint to the arias of Puccini which will inspire you to paint spontaneously with no interference of intellect and enslavement to detail. Tom's class will teach you to paint in the "alla prima" method, to paint in a quick direct approach. You will learn how to simplify a scene and think in a more abstract way. There will be daily demos and group critiques. Tom's classes put fun and pleasure into painting your artistic vision.

Oils From Beginning to End

Paul's workshops are very motivating for both beginner and experienced painter. Classes begin with a discussion of all materials and the importance and use of color charts followed by a demonstration and discussion of composition, values, and color. Weather permitting, you will paint en plein air in nature or indoors from photos. Design and composition in your painting are important factors and you will learn how to simplify, understand, and use them to add power and punch to your paintings. Paul gives personal one-on-one support and a complete critique each afternoon.

Intensive Watercolor

This fun and relaxed workshop will develop your confidence as a watercolor artist. Each class will begin with an hour demonstration emphasizing the basics and how to execute dynamic paintings whether portraits, figures, landscapes or floral. Some classes will offer 15 minute "no drawing allowed' paint along sessions. There will be plenty of individual instruction and class critiques. Weather permitting, you will paint outdoors.

Portraits in Pastel

Pastels are pure color. Dazzling effects can be created when pastels are pulled, splashed and scumbled directly across paper. You will learn fresh approaches to this vivid medium and create lively portraits from favorite photographs. You will explore wet and dry techniques, and learn how composition, color temperature and value contribute to mood and atmosphere. Demonstrations and lots of individual instruction.

Chinese Ink Painting and Calligraphy

Supplement and enrich your painting style by learning traditional Chinese ink painting. Through demonstrations and individual instruction, you will learn basic Chinese calligraphy brushwork. You will study and paint traditional Chinese painting themes such as the bamboo plant, the orchid, the plum blossom and the landscape. The nuances and techniques of watercolor and ink will be explored and demonstrated. Individual critique and group discussion are included.

New Inspiration: Starting with a Photograph

Do you sometimes feel uninspired? Taking inspiration from Sue's work and using your own photographs as a starting point, you will experiment with drawing, watercolor, acrylic and collage to create original, new work. Participants will need to bring their own laptop and Photoshop software.

Thinking ahead regarding your professional development as an artist? This workshop offered by Jennifer Wood-Patrick, a seasoned art advisor and art dealer, will get you on track. Topics include presenting your work to galleries and competitions and researching and targeting your best audience. The workshop will also cover the nuts and bolts about artists' websites, consignment and insurance, art pricing and framing, writing your curriculum vita, artist statement and more. A brief review of your portfolio, artist resources and group discussions are also important elements in this workshop.

Andrew will teach you to paint richly colored and layered pastel landscapes. Working from photographs, memories and imagination, Andrew emphasizes composition, values and light. You will learn how to edit an image, create a focal point, block in colors and finally add in details. Class includes a demonstration, individual attention and constructive critiques.

A Storytelling Workshop for Children Ages 7-10 and
Parents or Grandparents
Elisa Pearmain
Come spend a fun morning with storyteller Elisa Pearmain as she shares family stories and leads participants young and older to discover that they have stories to share from their personal and family history. Parents will gain the tools and skills for remembering, shaping and sharing stories with their children. Children will learn about their family history while illustrating stories from their own lives. Participants are asked to bring an object (or facsimile) of importance that was passed down or given to them, or that is meaningful to them in some way. Sharing is optional, but made easy through the exercises and small group work. This is fun for the family that can last a lifetime!
