Statement
Through
my exploration of contour, shape, texture, and shadow, I strive to create
photographs of the human body that are transcendent and ethereal. In
my abstract work, I deconstruct the particulars of the model’s
body, the curve of a shoulder, the shadow of a thigh, in order to move
the viewer to see the human form anew. In my non-abstract work, I seek
to portray the nude body as beautiful in itself and evocative of other
forms both familiar and otherwise. I enjoy experimenting with various
approaches to my figure work and it is this constant experimentation
that I find exciting.
Creative
Process
I
create my images using an assortment of cameras including digital SLRs
and film-based cameras such as the Holga, Diana , and Lubitel medium
format toy cameras as well as zone plate/pinhole cameras. I use a variety
of approaches to my work which includes the use of various odd and unique
lens, Polaroid films and Adobe Photoshop CS for my digital darkroom.
I strive to achieve my vision in the camera as much as possible. I output
all of my work using museum-quality fine art paper and pigment-based
archival inks.
