Color Theory for Printmaking

Why is color theory important, and how can we use it to improve our work? How do we achieve vibrant colors, textures, and dynamic mark-making in printmaking? Can we do all this and more using Akua Inks? This class will answer these questions as we take a deep dive into advanced color theory for printmaking with Akua Inks.

The Concord Art Printmaking Studio is a clean and environmentally conscious space. No toxic chemicals or oil based inks are permitted in the Printmaking Studio. Akua Inks are environmentally safe, non-toxic, and soy-based, making them a great option for a printmaking medium in our space. Akua Inks are highly pigmented, high quality, and easily modified. This class is taught by Brooke Lambert who is a sponsored artist by Akua Inks. This class will cover the technical uses and modifiers that are unique to the Akua Inks brand.

This class will cover in-depth color mixing and theory including exploration of hues, shades, tints, tones, and color schemes. We will cover technical use of printmaking with Akua Inks including ink viscosity, transparency, and opacity. We will cover monoprinting techniques: reductive, additive, stencil, and artifact printing with tools and textures. This class will cover how to correctly and safely operate the printing press, including setting pressure, blanket use, and cleaning. You will also go home with several colorful monoprints of your own and a greater understanding of color theory and techniques with Akua Inks. This class gets inky! Please bring an apron or wear your favorite paint outfit!

This class is suitable for all levels of experience with a focus on artists who would like to expand their color knowledge and deepen their understanding of Akua Inks. All materials will be provided.
