This workshop introduces students to a variety of printmaking methods that can be used to communicate ideas in different ways. Each day we will introduce a different technique: drypoint, collagraph, linocut, woodcut, and monotype. Students will have an opportunity to combine methods and explore creative ink applications to achieve unique variations. Kate will show examples, both historical and contemporary, to stir imaginations. Students will become comfortable and familiar with these new techniques and with printing on Concord Art’s press.
We will be working in a variety of print media. All materials will be provided: wood, linoleum, board for collagraph, and Petg monotype plate, as well as most inks, use of my tools, incidentals such as waxed paper, paper towel, tracing paper and carbon paper, etc. The instructor will also supply some paper, both Western-style paper such as Stonehenge, and Washi paper for woodblock printing. If you have supplies (inks, paper that you like, woodblocks, linoleum, printmaking tools, etc.), please bring them. We will be experimenting with combining techniques, and the more you have to work with, the better!
