Gel plate printing is an accessible monotype printing process—no press required! It is a versatile and experimental process for creating papers for collage, bookmaking, cards, journaling, as well producing monotypes. Printing in this way naturally builds beautiful textures and layered transparent effects.

Students will learn the best ways to apply acrylic paints, use a variety of tools for mark making, and learn about masking and stenciling to build complexity with patterns and textures. We will work with image transfers, adding graphite and marker drawings along with other methods of adding various media to resulting prints.

We will experiment with a variety of papers and how they affect results. Students will learn the soup-to-nuts of gel printing, including best methods for the care and feeding of their gel plates.

All levels of experience and curiosity are welcome!
