Fran O’Neill is a painter currently working in oil and watercolor. Her often large scale, abstract paintings are created from memories that begin as a visceral response to an unexpected moment. These memories act as a catalyst in the studio, entwined with personal experiences from her daily meanderings. Her gestural work draws from looking at all aspects of life; from the quietly tender, to the brash and all that’s in between. These emotionally charged moments, reimagined through painting, challenge O’Neill and the viewer to think and feel differently, and to be curious about their creation.
Mark making and movement serve as the foundation for O’Neill’s practice. Driven by color, light, composition, and scale, O’Neill’s work is organic, intuitive, and improvisational. Bolstered by a deep history of painting figuratively and painting the landscape, her practice has morphed into the abstract. O’Neill’s practice is rooted in process, and pushing the boundaries of what she knows, and what she works with.
Joining us on April 15, Fran O’Neill will discuss her journey as an artist, and her work as it has progressed through the years.
