Concord Art is 100 years old and counting! We were founded in 1922 by Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts, an American Impressionist and philanthropist, whose mission—to promote and advance the visual arts and artists and to enrich and sustain our cultural community—still stands today. Now with more than 1,000 members, Concord Art is still a leading contemporary art exhibition space and a vital studio art school.
In honor of such a milestone, Concord Art raised funds to replace our single outgrown and overworked classroom with a much larger and more flexible two-classroom space, or Art Barn, as we like to call it! Enhanced by state-of-the-art ventilation, improved lighting for art making, multi-purpose sinks, and much needed storage, this upgrade will serve our community into the next 100 years. We are aiming to double the size of our current classroom space and convert it into a multipurpose area fit for all sorts of programming, including classes, workshops, events, and rentals. Named in honor of EWR’s partner, Grace Keyes, and the entire Keyes family whose support has been integral throughout the history of Concord Art, the Keyes Art Barn will be complete in July 2026, at which point the surrounding landscaping will need to be redesigned so our community garden can thrive once again.
We cannot wait to reopen the patio, Ed Monti waterfall, and lush greenery that we are lucky enough to enjoy in our own backyard. The garden redesign will build on the success of the previous design, which was well loved, used, and functional, but was difficult to access. The planned landscaping will include vital improvements to the signage and accessibility of this outdoor space by adding handrails and expanding rampways. To complete this project, Concord Art has embarked on a capital campaign to raise the funds needed for landscaping.

The illustration above shows the latest, not final, version of the landscape redesign. Some detail-oriented revisions are expected, though none that would significantly alter the overall direction of the project.

While renovations are underway, we will also be implementing critical repairs and updates to the historic section of our building. The wall between the Abbot gallery and Winstanley gallery (print studio) has been taken down, and this new bigger space is serving as a temporary classroom while the new Art Barn is being built. Then, once the Art Barn is open and operational, the temporary classroom will become one large exhibition space! This portion of the project has been generously supported by the Town of Concord Community Preservation Fund.

How can I create a legacy of support?
You can make a bequest through your will or trust or designate Concord Art as a beneficiary in other estate gifts such as retirement plans, donor-advised funds and life insurance policies.
Bequests
A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust. It may take the form of a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or be a part of or the entire residual of your estate after other specific bequests have been determined. If you already have a will, you can readily add Concord Art to it with a codicil.
Other Estate Gifts
In addition to your will or trust, you can complete a beneficiary designation form with your financial institution to name Concord Art as a beneficiary of any of these accounts:

EWR Legacy Circle
When you notify Concord Art of its inclusion in your estate planning, you will become a member of our EWR Legacy Circle–a welcome group of donors who have supported Concord Art with a truly lifetime gift.
The EWR Legacy Circle is named after our founder, Elizabeth Wentworth Roberts, who in 1922, formed a corporation for the purpose of “the encouragement, promotion, advancement of art and art exhibitions, to establish and maintain in the Town of Concord, to acquire and dispose of works of art.” Her purpose remains our mission today and the lifetime gifts of the EWR Legacy Circle members ensure that Concord Art will continue into the future.

The vibrant Concord Center for the Visual Arts will soon celebrate its centennial. Our deep roots in Concord, and a far-reaching reputation for excellent exhibitions and educational programs, make Concord Art a unique organization with broad, regional appeal.
With exhibits like Sight Specific: A Selection of American Perceptual Paintings during the summer of 2014, the photography show that followed, In Search of the Miraculous, Revealing Identity in spring of 2015, Boston Sculptors in Concord during summer 2015, and cut.paper.fold this past autumn, Concord Art has confirmed its reputation as a regional center for the visual arts, attracting nationally recognized artists to curate and exhibit in our historic building in Concord. Our “c-art” collaboration with Middlesex School, Concord Academy and Concord-Carlisle High School provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for teenagers to work alongside professional artists and curators. Our educational offerings, from art instruction and lectures by acclaimed artists, and European travel for artists to museum tours for art lovers, mean Concord Art engages many people of all ages and many interests in Greater Boston and well beyond.
Concord Center for the Visual Arts has 800 plus members from Concord and surrounding towns as well as the Cape, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. In addition, Concord Art’s central location in historic Concord means that we have visitors to our exhibitions and events from around the country and around the world.
Concord Art wants to collaborate with your company. Whether you are a local business or larger corporation, chances are our service areas overlap.
